Day two - vintage illustration week

This little meme by Pip is harder than I thought. I have spent a good two hours pouring over my collection and still cant decide which books to choose. But after much umming and ahhing I decided to choose Mary Blair today. Her illustrations are so lovely and always make me smile. She is most known for her work with Disney but her illustrations in I Can Fly by Ruth Krauss (1951) are by far my favourites.

This edition is a reprint and you may still be able to pick one up as Little Golden Books reprinted it as part of their classic series. I do have an earlier edition but its is scribbled in and battered. One of my dreams is to pick up an original copy in a dusty old op shop somewhere.

Oh, these are my favourite illustrations so far! I love the shape and simplicity of them. Really gorgeous. If I ever find an old copy in an Op Shop I'll send it your way :)

I love this book too. We bought it last year for your trip to China and read it to James over and over. It is so lovely to read!

Corrie and Mel, you can join in. I took these pics with my camera. I do have a scanner but am too lazy to figure out how to use it.

I am so glad this book is on so many bookshelves. It really is a treasure.

Mary Blair is wonderful - there is a book detailing her work 'The Art and Flair of Mary Blair' that you can buy on Fishpond.com.au or amazon. 'I can fly' is such a beautiful, happy book! And the story is super cute too! Thanks for uploading these gorgeous pics! Yay you!

Oh I remember this one as a child too Ingrid - I guess it must be at my mum and dad's place.
Gorgeous story and illustrations, I loved the fish one with her wearing the swimming ring.
