Well it is the first day of Spring and I am feeling all sunshiny and happy. I had a wonderful haul at the thrift store a few weeks back and came home with a bag full of lovely vintage patterns. I went through them last night and I now have a few doubles (or close enough to it) in my collection, so it is time to pass them on.
What better way to start sewing up a new Spring wardrobe for yourself than with some lovely vintage inspiration!
So here is the deal. Leave a comment here telling me your favourite thing to do in Spring and I will draw one lucky name next Monday morning and the winner will get all three patterns. I will send them anywhere in the world so all you international gals dont miss out. They are all vintage size 12 (bust 32 hip 34) and copyright dates from 1955 to 1960. I have not checked if all the pieces are there but each envelope feels quite full, just letting you know they come as is.
Happy Spring time everyone!

eating fresh strawberries by the basketful!
I like to stalk my garden - every day I check out all the garden beds for the first signs of the new plants pushing through the soil. It's so much fun when the first shoots come up into the sun!
Ahhh, Spring - I love the newly emerging flowers, the increasingly warm weather, and the birds twittering all morning long. My favorite thing to do - go to the garden center to find plants for the beds and containers. I usually take the grandsons along so they can see the variety.
My favorite thing to do in spring is set out the plants in our garden.
One of my favourite activities in Spring is walking in the woods to enjoy the energy and scent of new growth. It all seems so fresh and full of promise. Rejuvenating!
My absolutely favourite thing to do in spring is walking down the street and smelling the apple blossoms.
I take annual pictures of the little ones in our family (now 3 and 5) under the cherry blossoms at a big park in our city in Canada.

Hello my dear, just wandered over here from Sew Retro. What a great giveaway, but I am so far away here in Virginia. Just wanted to say hello and love your blog so send those patterns to someone so much more local. I will enjoy checking in again! xo, suzy
No way Suzy! You are in the draw! Postage for a few little patterns wont break the bank :-)
My favorite thing to do in spring is to get ready for another season of gardening. Most of my plants are started indoors in late winter, and I love to get them outside into the sun.
Happy Spring Ingrid, THose patterns are gorgeous.
The first thing I do in Spring is to phone my Dad and wish him a happy birthday (being a spring babe and all!)
My favorite spring activities are going to Coney Island before it gets crowded in the summertime and pulling out my sundress patterns in anticipation of the warm weather.
As there aren't four seasons where I live (and no patterns either!), I can only imagine what I would do in spring which is laze around! Oh wait, I do that everyday! :P
My favorite thing to do is go to DISNEYLAND!
Spinning fibre with mates in the park
I had to think about this for a minute! I'm in North America, so spring was quite a few months ago. My favorite thing to do is check for the first snow crocuses pushing their way up through the snow to remind me there is an end to winter and a new different kind of beauty to come.
I love to sit outside and listen to the birds chirp and talk. They're so quiet in the winter and I just love when they get animated again in springtime.

Spring to me is definitely flowers! I love to sit out in my sunroom (3 walls of windows) with coffee and enjoy the new growth in the spring.
In Spring I love to get the cotton dresses out of my wardrobe and wait impatiently for the weather to be warm enough to walk barefoot in the soft grass.
Staying for more than fifteen minutes under the shower - and look over the landscape up to the next town and feeling happy that the trees dress up again in lovely green. Then I pull my Australian husband out of bed to show him that his season has finally begun ...
Sitting outside in the early morning and feeling the cool spring morning and the warm rising sun, feeling the renewed grass and watching nature and it awakes.
I like to press juice from my grapefruit tree and walk on the beach early in the morning.
Spring for us in northern Michigan is like walking out of a movie theater on a bright sunny day. We nearly have to shade our eyes from the color, the glorious green.
I love to watch the squirrels start to refill their "stash" in the knoll on my favorite tree.
My favorite thing about spring is seeing the oak trees start to bloom and get green leaves. They line the streets of my neighborhood!!!
One of my favorite things to do in spring is dig out all the mud boots (wellies) heading out into the fields with the wee ones to look for patches of green rising up from under the snow.
Definitely my favorite Spring thing is planning and planting my garden and watching the plants come to life! Those are great vintage patterns by the way...hoping I win!!! Mary
I like the very early spring. Every day the day is a little longer and you see the first symptoms of spring. Little buds on bushes that gets bigger every day until it is like there is a green mist over the bushes. The first early flowers: the first snowdrop and then, later, the anemones.
I live in Switzerland, so we are just enjoying the last couple of late summer-days. And then I have months to dream about spring and being able to sit outside again looking at the first flowers.
My favorite thing is putting branches cut from my apple tree in a large vase and seeing the first buds and flowers appear before anything in the garden has begun to blossom...AND dreaming up projects for spring wardrobe sewing, of course...
I love spring as I do not like winter at all! One of my favorite spring things to do is to bring out the spring fabrics and start designing/imagining/planning my new spring garments.
Hi there! I just had to post as these patterns are gorgeous, and it made me think about spring - I'm in the UK and it's yet another rainy day, with the nights drawing in... I love walking down the street and sniffing all the tree blossom, and the first time you can go to the park without a coat - just looking at all the bright green new leaves makes me so happy.
My favorite thing to do in spring, is to take off my shoes and play in the fresh, wet grass... I miss it through the winter.
I think my favorite spring activity is smelling lilac bushes. We finally planted some this year, so hopefully we'll have our own in the years to come. But in the meantime, I always take time to stop and smell the lilacs when I'm out walking with my dog...Thank you for the giveaway, and thank you as well for all of the wonderful retro inspiration! :-)
I like to pull out the cookbooks and the old cooking magazines and figure out new and delicious things to make with the produce as it pops up fresh in the grocery, the farmer's markets, and my own garden. Reading the cookbooks gets me motivated and excited for the fast approaching summer produce abundance.
Is this open to the U.S.??
I love Spring because it means I can start wearing my skirts again and flowers are begining to bloom!
My favorite thing is to sit out on my porch in the early morning drinking coffee and smelling the lilacs as the bloom. I spend this time planning my garden.
My favorite thing about spring is a tossup between the Easter Bonfire (I'm in the northern hemisphere, obviously) or the first day that it is dry enough to go spread a blanket on the lawn and read a book in the not-too-hot sun.
Buy plants to put in the pots on my porch--it always makes me smile and want to skip...I usually don't skip, but I feel like it!
I love that first pattern, it would make a lovely wedding dress, don't you think?
Each spring I wait for the moment when it's still light when I leave work at 5 oclock - then I know summer evenings are on their way.
Tulips! Daffodils! Crocus! I love spring bulbs.
Getting outside after the long winter and feeling the sunshine on bare skin.
I love watching the tulips and daffodils push up and bloom.
I was totally going to say the same thing as Amy just above me. I loved seeing the daffodils poke up when I lived in Chicago. Now, I think my favorite thing about spring in southern California is being able to go to the desert and not being baked out. There are blooms and it is gorgeous.
I love Spring because.... everything feels new, feels fresh and alive. All things tingle with anticipation. Mud puddles need jumping in. Grass needs rolling in. It's a rebirth of self.
The first radishes & lettuces from the garden. So very bright tasting. :D

spring air reminds me of when i was in university and every day was an adventure and you'd meet someone new.
it reminds me to hope and keep my eyes open.
i also love the colors.
I like to dust off my bike and take a long ride. It "spring cleans" my brain by blowing out the cobwebs with some fresh air and sunshine. I love the fresh green color of the buds just opening on the trees and the symphony of the frogs in the newly melted creeks.
Kayaking in the river delta near my home. It is so beautiful to see the new growth and feel the energy of rejuvenation. Of course, I have to be quick because spring lasts about a week in South Alabama on the coast of the Gulf of Mexico.
I love taking my coat to the dry cleaners, knowing that I can stash it in the back part of my closet til the following winter. And if that sounds too lame, I love going to greenhouses and garden nurseries to get ideas about what to plant for summer.
I love to sit in the warm sun, let the breeze blow over my face and smell the fresh air.
Blessings,
Patti
I like to go out every day and see how much bigger the leaves are and how much closer to blooming the flowers are. You can watch them change day by day.
I love listening for the birds to return. This is two fold - when I can go outside and hear the cardinals and chickadees and then when I can open the windows and listen to the whole cacophony while drinking tea in the morning.
The first thing I do is smell. It is a smell of thawing earth - not even the snowdrops are out. And then nature happens all at once. Getting rid of the heavy duty winter clothes, then the gloves. Loving every bit of green that pokes out its leaves. But it all culminates in the first ice cream I can eat on the curb without freezing my fingers to the spoon. Spring.
pink flowers! I never get tired of them.
getting lost wandering around the city, or going to chinatown and drinking bubble tea :oP
I throw all the windows open and enjoy the breezes blowing through my home.
New skirt weather
Sundresses
Spring produce
Blossoms on the trees, jasmine in the backyard and unpacking all of my lovely summer frocks. Which I must do now that I can smell those blossoms in the air!
dancing around the garden in dresses!!!!!! or if im feeling brave, ill enlist a friend and we'll run all around a park like little kids until we run out of breath...(generally after about 45 secs:))
I live in Texas, so my favorite thing about spring is sleeping with the windows open! No heat, no air conditioning! Just the yummy spring air! Delicious!
Hello! I found you through Dress a Day.
My favorite thing to do in the spring is settle into the hammock to read a good book. Never mind if I sometimes need a sweater; nothing beats a good book, a hammock, and a spring breeze!
smell the scent of jasmine on the breeze....spring has sprung
I'm here via Dress A Day too - and I'm already getting seriously excited by the prospect of Spring.....mmmmmmmm.....
My favourite thing to do is drink my morning cup of tea out side, wearing only my underpants. Brilliant.
I'm off to check out the rest of your blog - lovely to *meet* you!

I love seeing the little tiny daisies blooming on my high school campus! They provide welcome cheeriness in a day that begins at 7:10 am and ends at 3:00 pm...
Going outside in my shirt sleeves even though it's still just a bit too cold for it, and having my first anticipatory drink on the patio :)
I enjoy waking up every morning, looking out my window, and marveling at the budding cherry blossoms on the tree outside.
This might not sound as pretty, but honestly, I like to take a brisk walk to the library and browse for a few hours. Then, of course, right across from that is a small fabric store, which is also a nice place to spend all my "spare time." If I'm motivated, I'll stop at church and practice organ, probably singing loudly if I'm alone.
Watching giant thunderstorms roll in, changing the light from golden to this glorious purple-blue. You can smell spring in the air, feel it on your face, and see it in lightning & clouds!
Puddle-jumping!
Also, the feeling I get when it's still daylight when I get out from work (after a long dark winter, we DO notice) - my shoulders literally sink a couple of centimeters and my whole being relaxes markedly.
Hands down it is that beautiful, fresh, clean smell in the air! And the daffodils & tulips.
Wow, so many postings! I'm Kendall from New Zealand, I enjoy spring so much it is my favourite time of the year - I love it when you get to see daffodils out on a crisp frosty morning and the sun starts to warm up your cold bones, but most of all because the 2nd of September is my birthday!
I love taking a walk and saying hello to all of the neighborhood cats who were cooped up during the winter!
Picking some flowers from my garden to display inside. Finally getting to wear my spring frocks I spent all winter sewing. Cups of tea in the garden with friends. Walking my dog in the sunshine by the river!
Shedding the heavy winter coat and wearing a pretty dress and shoes instead of boots and slacks.
I just love those first days of sun in the spring and being outside, preferably walking in the beach... with a wonderful spring dress from those pattern :)
I love watching sprouts come out of the muddy (snow)banks that are leftover from a slushy winter. It makes all the mud-slush worth it!
The fresh yellow-green leaf shoots appearing everywhere are so inspiring. I tend to wear a lot of green in spring!
In spring I love to wander the streets of North Carlton, imagining I'm in Italy. It makes me happy and also terribly wistful at the same time. Then I go home and look at my beautiful garden and remember how happy I am to be here.
I like to bike to Toronto Island.
My friends and I eat cucumber and cream cheese sandwiches with pink lemonade. Somewhere between eating and skipping rocks, there is always someone taking a nap in the sun
Favourite spring thing: Cutting a bunch of pink blossom from the plum tree and putting in a vase inside!
Get out all my sundresses from winter storage, wash them and get them ready to go... and pull out sundress patterns and daydream about which ones might actually get made this year... :-)
Looking for the newest almost translucent green grass just coming up to the light.
my favourite moment of spring is when I see the first cherry blossoms in bloom - it really makes my heart sing! My favourite thing to do is to wear my summer dresses way before it's warm enough to, cos I'm so sick of layering and rugging up. It's my way of willing the warmer weather to come...
Breathing, deeply, the ground is getting warm again and you can smell earth and green in the air. Seeing the first bit of green leaves coming out, they are so hopeful....
I love taking snaps of the beautiful flowers in our garden early in the morning and some of them can be found with little due drops.....
So generous of you! My favorite thing to do in springtime is enjoy the green. I carry my camera everywhere as soon as I see the first chartreuse-y green leaf, and take pictures of spring green all around me.
I love to go backpacking in the mountains. The woods smell so wonderful!
visiting San Francisco's "Queen Wilhemina's Tulip Garden" in Golden Gate Park! You're so generous!
This is my first spring back home after several years living in the tropics, where it can feel the same every day.
I think the best thing is getting home from work when it is still light with time to walk around the neighbourhood looking at the blossoms and bulbs bursting from the bare branches and soil in the local front gardens.
My favorite thing to do in spring involves several types of "unveiling" -- watching the earth as it casts off the last remnants of winter, beginning with crocuses peeking through the last bits of snow and frost, and ending with all the flowers in full bloom; enjoying "casting off" all the heavy winter garments I've been wearing and getting into lighter skirts, dresses, fun tops, capris, and NO COAT!; finally, casting off the deary thoughts of winter-has-gone-on-too-long and enjoying the FREEDOM of spring, and new possibilities, and limitless hope!
This is perhaps best illustrated by one spring when I was a child, taking ballet after school. I wore my ballet slippers home one day instead of changing back to my heavy oxfords. The Freedom! I felt like I could run like the wind. :-)
I feel like I'm in a "spring" right now, even though it's the end of summer where I live, because I'm remaking myself into a better person -- beginning last March (spring here) I began eating better and Exercising. I've lost tons of inches and 25 lbs. so far (35 lbs. if you count the year before as well) -- about 3 sizes in 5 months! I'm about halfway to my goal, which I expect to reach this winter. So my coming spring, I'll be unveiling a slimmer me in some new clothes (and I love vintage patterns and vintage-designed patterns, anyhow, so I'd be honored to win these!)
Pick me, pick me, pick me! (LOL!)
Thanks!
Spring's about new beginnings, the point where new and wonderful things begin to grow out of the depths of winter. I love to walk in the country park near my house every day, and the best thing about doing it in spring is seeing the tiny daily changes that signal life starting a whole new cycle. I also love spring because it's when I met my darling partner, starting my life and my creative being on a whole new cycle. Spring reminds me that there is a purpose to death, decay and darkness, both for the world and for us as individuals - in my end, as Mary Queen of Scots wrote, is my beginning.
