landed

This is the other half of the doll quilt swap. The 'fly' quilt I made for Leah which has now landed safely at its new home so I can show you more pictures. I was so excited when I saw her colour preferences were for aqua and red and that she wanted a quilt for the wall. I LOVE aqua and red! And then after buying a few of Jodies little girls I knew just what I wanted to make.

I learnt a lot making this quilt, like you are not meant to double back when ending quilting threads, you are meant to tuck them in, and that quilting on top of appliques attached with vliesofix doesn't work that well at all. It was the first time I tried quilting in anything other than straight lines and I am rather pleased with these little swirls and clouds. Leah is a brilliant quilter so I was rather nervous sending this off, but she likes it. YAY!

I do love the finished quilt, faults and all. But as sweet as the front is, I think I love the backing and binding best of all.

Ingrid, it is beautiful. I'm so excited to see what you did with the little girl. I hadn't thought of adding them to a quilt. I love the way the tree quilting looks on the back.

I'm so impressed with your quilting, it really makes the piece and you have every right to be proud. The back looks fantastic, well done!

Ingrid it's divine!!! I just love everything about it - the quilting, the tree, Jodie's girl, the fabric!! These are the colours of my daughter's bedroom so I'm quite partial to a bit of red and aqua! I'm not so keen on the vliesofix stiffness in a quilt applique and redid a recent quilt without. And a little tip with the quilting - if your machine does zero stitch length you just do about 5 stitches on the spot and then put your stitch length back to the length you want to quilt in and then repeat the zero step at the end. Then you just snip the thread off right against the quilt. If you don't have zero just do the smallest and try to keep it in the one spot. Too easy!! Beautiful work Ingrid.
