I'm getting more stylish

I am turning 40 this year. And I hate to say that the thought was beginning to fill me with dread. After many years working in the fashion industry and having more than a little bit of a fashion obsession, I have to admit that the last 5 years or so I have gone into a slump. I have put on a enormous amount of weight which sadly leads to wearing what fits rather than what I love. I still like to think I know how to put in some effort and I rarely leave the house without eyeliner and the right shoes, but generally I have to admit that I have plummeted to the bottom in the fashion stakes.

Then the other week I came across an amazing blog called advanced style. And I have decided that instead of getting older I am just going to get more stylish. These fabulous ladies are truly inspiring. Look out 40 here I come!

I do think that getting out of the "fashion loop" can be a good thing. We can stop and think about our true style regardless of fashion. I'm hoping to try my hand at sewing skirts and dresses in the warmer months.

Hell yeah!! I'm 36 & it's amazing how many comments i get on a cool accessory or piece of clothing, rather than hmmm . . . you're pushing a size 12 don't you think?? Long live the patterned kaftan & amazing shoes, if you feel beautiful & fashionable, you are, it's about confidence. That said, i've gained 8kg in 3 months, hello stress, so i'm refocussing on what is important, as yes, weight is for me when it becomes a health issue. Rock on the fashion Ingrid & that 40th birthday!! Love Posie

Hey Ingrid, try 46 on for size! That's what I'll be this year and I'm finding it very hard to get my head around...

I love the idea of striving to be more stylish. I sometimes feel in a bit of a "mommy uniform" rut. Great inspiration!

I am SO following that blog now; thanks for the link! They are who I shall aspire to be, even though I will be "only" 30 in a month (eep! under a month now!).

Isn't it funny how we view ourselves compared to how other do?? As you know, I don't think you need a style overhaul at all!
That said - 40 is a fun time to do what you want - so go for it. As one who is already there - 40 is not that bad at all.

At 36, I feel I just have more confidence. Same old style, just more confident stepping out in red cardigan with pink patterned scarf, or striped long sleeved top under funky T, or ugh boots & trackies... LOL... just joking on the the last one! I am thinking of investing in some gorgeous high heeled black espradilles this Summer (have always, always wanted some). OK, so they may not be so practical or comfortable, but just think how awesome my legs will look in them!!

If I can lose my love handles, I think some cute shorts & cap sleeve blouse could almost be pulled off!

Cheers to growing up & looking better!!

I reckon Kitty's pink tights outfit on an older woman would make it straight to the top of the Advanced Style site.

i feel you! and i LOVE advanced style... For all of the effort I make towards making my daughters look stylish, I desperately need to get out of my mommy uniform rut (as one of the commenters so perfectly put it)...
